El Cerrito Community Recreation Center
El Cerrito, California

Senior Project Manager: Ron Bravo

The City of El Cerrito recently opened their redesigned and revamped Community Center which includes two new swimming pools. The competition pool is a 25-yard x 25-meter pool with 8 swimming lanes in each direction with an all deep 25-yard x 56-foot waterpolo course and a step entry with an adjacent 3,150-square foot recreation pool that includes three 25-yard lap lanes, a water slide, two 48-foot teaching lanes, a childrens' water slide and an easy step entry with a dew drop water feature.

This project won a California Parks and Recreation Society award for Facility Design Excellence.

The Glorietta Bay Master Plan
Coronado, California

The $26 million City of Coronado Glorietta Bay construction includes a new Town Hall, Council Chambers, Offices, and Recreation Center, which features a new 50-meter x 25-yard, 10-lane competition pool with a 2-meter wide stainless steel flow-through bulkhead. This accommodates a three-meter springboard and a one-meter springboard diving, in addition to an all deep 30-meter waterpolo course. The adjacent 4,000 square-foot recreation pool includes 3 25-yard lap swimming lanes, step entry teaching area and a zero depth beach entry with a dew drop water spray feature. This facility is unique in that it is situated within 30 feet of the waters of the beautiful Glorietta Bay, and the pools are being held in place using 250 fundex concrete piles driven as much as 18 feet below grade into the bedrock. The project is utilizing electricity and bi-product heat generated for the pool equipment from a Micro Turbine. Due to open fall 2005.

San Fernando Regional Pool

The City of San Fernando, San Fernando Regional Pool facility is currently under construction. Estimated at $6.5 million, this fabulous regional facility includes a new all deep water 50-meter x 25-yard 8-lane competition pool with deck level perimeter overflow gutters and a 25-foot x 14-foot step entry alcove with 18 cross course swimming lanes, three-meter springboard and a one-meter springboard diving, and will accommodate an international standard 30-meter water polo course. Adjacent to the competition pool is a 4,000 square foot recreation pool with 4-25-yard lap swimming lanes, a slide alcove with a 3-loop 142-foot pool slider, and a semi-circular zero depth entry with several inter active water features including bubblers, geysers, noodles and a tea cup. To complete this exciting new project, there is also a 1,200 square-foot water spray ground with more wonderful interactive water play equipment including the cyclone, noodles, water sheets, inward spray rings and more. This facility will generate 100% of the electrical requirements and utilizing the heat bi-product from a co-generation system. Due to open summer 2005.

Heritage High School
Brentwood, California

Liberty Union Unified School District and the City of Brentwood, new 50-meter x 25-yard competition pool for the new Heritage High School in Brentwood is also under construction. This pool – whose heating will be supplemented using heat from 5,200 square feet of solar panels – will also offer 16-cross course lanes, three-meter springboard and a one-meter springboard diving, shallow depth end for learn-to-swim programs and will be joint-use by the city and school district.

Los Angeles Unified School District

Los Angeles Unified School District currently has three of the seven 25-yard x 25-meter new swimming pools under construction at the South East Learning Center in the City of Bell, South Central High School #1 and Central High School #1 in downtown Los Angeles.

Santa Clara, California

This project – part of a $10.5-million, 20,000-square-foot expansion of the City of Santa Clara's Senior Center – includes one 25-yard x 3-lane therapeutic lap and fitness pool and one therapeutic rehabilitation hot pool. The center will go into construction documents this fall and open in late 2005.
